Microsoft Releases Internet Explorer 7
IE7 is a significant upgrade to IE6, and offers tabbed browsing, an anti-phishing toolbar, a redesigned interface, and a variety of security features, including increased protection against rogue ActiveX controls.
IE7 for Windows XP is available in English and runs on Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP 64-bit Edition and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. It will be available in other Windows-supported languages “over the coming weeks,” according to Microsoft.
Users of Windows XP latest version will get the browser as an automatic update in November while others can download it now from the company’s Web site. The new product is aimed at halting the decline in the browser’s market share which it has been losing to open source browser Firefox.
IE usage which had once been as high as 92 percent has declined to as low as 62 percent, whereas Firefox usage has now risen to 14 percent, according to research figures.
