Germany leads at the penetration of Firefox
During the late 1990s Netscape was very popular in Germany. People of this country have always seemed to embrace alternatives to Microsoft when it comes to web browsers. Now Firefox appears to have a stronger foothold in some European countries than in the US, and more than a quarter of German computer users access the World Wide Web using Firefox.
The market researchers in western European countries – statistics:
- Germany (Firefox 26.8%, Explorer 65.04%),
- France (Firefox 14.89%, Explorer 82.27%),
- Italy (Firefox 12.46%, Explorer 84.76%),
- Spain (Firefox 9.6%, Explorer 88.12%),
- Great Britain (Firefox 8.82%, Explorer 88.78%).
WebSideStory analyst Geoff Johnston believes that the Firefox is taking a strong foothold in these European countries, generally at the expense of Microsoft. Between January and June of this year in Germany, the browser gained 1.4 percentage points, in Italy it gained 2.1 percentage points while in the US only a 0.54 percentage points. It seems to be getting a head of steam in Europe.
